Simple tips to decorate on a budget
Is it about time you gave a room a makeover? Perhaps a little modernisation is long overdue but you've put off the work due to fears about costs. Never fear - you don't have to blow the budget to create stylish, fresh interiors. Follow our tips to decorate on a budget.
1. Re-use and save money!
Redecorating isn't always about overhauling a room and its furniture. Old fixtures, fittings and furniture can be given a new lease of life with a few simple modifications. Likewise, you can plan your new room design around an existing piece - such as a dining room table, living room sofa, a fireplace or flooring. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!
2. You can Do It Yourself
Some jobs, such as electrical work or structural building work, should only be carried out by a qualified professional. But there are plenty of tasks that you can do yourself if you want to decorate on a budget - saving you money on expensive labour costs. Plastering touch-up jobs, painting and even laying certain types of flooring are relatively easy if you have the time and patience.
3. It's all in the detail
It's possible to completely transform a room with a few clever (and inexpensive!) touches. New curtains, a rug and matching accessories can brighten and modernise any room. For cheap but stylish artwork, simply collect complementing wallpaper samples from your local DIY store, hang them in matching frames and pop them on the wall. Designer chic for under £10!
4. Spend those pennies wisely!
If you want to decorate a room on a budget, we can't overemphasise the importance of shopping around. If you are hiring a professional, get at least three quotes before you decide. Shop online for furniture and accessories - it's not uncommon to find discounts of up to 20% on high street prices.
