How to give your kitchen a makeover on the cheap
A new kitchen can add huge value to your home, and can make cooking and family time much more pleasant experiences. However, a kitchen makeover is notoriously expensive - and can cause a lot of disruption too. Here are some quick tips and tricks to transform your kitchen on the cheap!
1. Think colour
For a long time, monochrome has been the order of the day in the kitchen. But all that is changing. Coloured paints and even patterned wallpapers are making a comeback, and a splash of colour on one wall in your kitchen can totally transform the whole look and feel of the room. Subtle and bright colours can be carried through on all of the walls, but choosing one or two to paint can give a more elegant finish.
2. New tiles?
A tiled splashback is a perfect way to transform the look of your kitchen without tearing it all out and starting over. If you already have a splashback, you can paint the tiles with specially designed paint. Aim for block colours unless your art skills are particularly good - otherwise try out some stencil designs. If you don't have a splashback, installing one is fairly cheap and easy - just visit your local DIY store for tips.
3. Makeover your cupboards
They're one of the first things you notice when you walk into the room, so spending a little time on your cupboard doors is a great way to achieve a kitchen makeover on the cheap. Doors can be painted and handles can be changed without the help of an expert.
4. Be bold with accessories!
When it comes to a kitchen makeover, it's the little things that can make the big difference. Picking up some smart accessories like cushions, bowls and house plants is a great way to start. Also remember to display any stylish utensils you may have, and put any ugly appliances that you're not using in the cupboards.
