8 corkscrew uses that you may not have realised

Corkscrews are used to remove corks from wine bottles but there are loads of other uses for them. We’ve had a check online to see what uses the world is putting corkscrews to. Some are a bit dangerous, and we wouldn’t recommend them – such as using a corkscrew to remove a battery from a mobile phone, but others actually make some sense.

If you still use VHS tapes, you could use a corkscrew to fish the tape out when it’s clogged up. Be careful not to ruin it though. This tape’s surely precious to you if you’re still using it years after DVD took over.

So what else can you do with a corkscrew other than remove a cork from a bottle? Why not use it to remove partially-exposed nails? Okay, it won’t work as well as claw hammer but if you don’t have one to hand, use your corkscrew.

Why not use it to mark a pilot hole into something you’re about to drill into? It’s great as long as the material’s soft enough not to damage the corkscrew (as we’re assuming you’ll still want to use it from time to time to remove corks!)
