How to hang poster on a wall without damaging your home

You probably have a collection of posters that you would like to hang in your bedroom, study or any part of your home. After all, posters are meant to be hanged and looked at, not gather cobwebs and dust in their tubes.

Before you handle your poster or take it out from its tube, make sure your hands are clean. If you just finished working on your car's engine, then it is wiser to wash your hands to avoid smudging your posters.

The night before you intend to hang them on the wall, lay posters flat and weigh them down with books or weights to flatten the surface. This way, it is also easier to handle them when hanging.

Clean the spot on the wall where you intend to hang it. Also, check if the poster is centred. If you are alone and no one can check with you, use a ruler or measuring tape and mark points where the poster will go.

One of the ways you can safely attach your poster is through using a double sided adhesive for posters. Remove one side of the adhesive and stick it on the poster before fixing it on the wall. Depending on the type of climate in your area (high humidity can cause it to fall off easily), you might need to reinforce the poster with extra adhesive.

You can also use removable putty for mounted posters. Note that putty is a sticky material for posters so you would not want to use too much of it to avoid rumpling the poster and removing your paint on the walls when it's time to take it down.

Magic tape can also work for posters. Its main advantage is that you can easily remove the tape from the poster. In addition, it is nearly invisible which gives it a neater finish.

For wooden surfaces, you can opt for thumb tacks and to minimise the size of the points, do not poke holes. Slide binders can also be used on posters and you can thread a string on top to hang on a wall.

Finally, use heavy duty mounting tape as a last resort. It's not really recommended for light posters as it is meant to fix stuff on walls permanently.
